Two Washington County restaurateurs told Washington County liquor officials they want to open a restaurant in downtown Hagerstown.
Greg and Marjorie Kane, who own Toppings Pizza Co. off Robinwood Drive, told the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County during a Wednesday hearing that they were considering the space at 43-45 S. Potomac St.
The building was most recently home to the Spin restaurant and nightclub.
Marjorie Kane said she and her husband, Greg, were granted a liquor license last year to serve alcohol at a restaurant they wanted to open on Maugans Avenue. However, that business venture, she said, fell through.
“Sadly, we have had to disband that restaurant,” Marjorie Kane said.
She asked the liquor board for advice about applying for another liquor license for the restaurant on South Potomac Street.
Robert Everhart, liquor board chairman, suggested that the Kanes start from scratch and apply for a new license.
“Nothing has changed much, I guess, as far as your qualifications and all that, so it shouldn’t be a problem,” he said.
Marjorie Kane said if everything goes well, they could open the new restaurant in three months.
The building at 43-45 S. Potomac St. has been home to several restaurants over the past five years.
43 South Ristorante and Flo Lounge occupied the space from 2006 until early 2008, when owner Mike Deming said he chose to close those businesses because he wanted to invest more time in other downtown enterprises, including real-estate development.
The Peach Pub lasted from 2008-2010, and another restaurant, Legends on the Square, opened in October 2010 and went out of business a little more than a year later.
Spin opened in early 2012 and closed in December.
