Maryland State Highway Administration will release a definitive plan Saturday afternoon to prepare for possible inclement weather Saturday night, SHA spokesperson David Buck said Friday.

"There's a reasonable chance for wintry precipitation Saturday night into Sunday," he said. "Throw that into the mix with Super Bowl parties, and it is a recipe for problems."

The Super Bowl on Sunday is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. Buck said there could be a greater number of drivers under the influence Sunday night than usual.

"People should never drink and drive, but the potential for somebody doing that is greater after something like the Super Bowl," he said.

According to the National Weather Service's website, http://forecast.weather.gov, the high in Hagerstown on Friday was expected to reach 48 degrees, with a Friday night low of around 31 degrees.

On Saturday, the temperature could range from 31 degrees to 47 degrees, with a chance of precipitation after 1 p.m. and winds between 5 and 7 mph., according to the weather service. Less than a tenth of an inch precipitation is possible, the NWS said.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain or snow on Super Bowl Sunday, with a high of only 38 degrees, the weather service said.

"Crashes can happen at any time, but police will have their hands full this weekend," Buck said. "People at Super Bowl parties need to make sure they have a designated driver, which is something they should always do anyway."
