U.S. Marshals and the Vermont State Police have arrested a Washington County man in Vermont who was wanted in Maryland for sexual assault and filming a minor engaged in sex acts.
Robert William Mulkern was arrested in Windsor on Thursday.
Mulkern, 46, was charged in Maryland in 2010 with four counts of third-degree sex offense, two counts of unnatural or perverted practices and 149 counts of child pornography.
Police say they previously seized from Mulkern’s former residence two computers and a digital camera which they said showed images of Mulkern and others engaged in sexual acts with a minor victim.
Mulkern has been profiled on “America’s Most Wanted” television show.
Maryland’s online court records system shows that Mulkern, with a last known address of Spielman Road near Williamsport, was wanted on 149 counts in a June 2010 warrant.
One count was sex abuse of a minor, four counts were third-degree sex offense and the other 144 counts were child pornography/film of a sex act. All stemmed from incidents in 2009.
In 2010, The Herald-Mail reported that Maryland State Police had arrested and charged Mulkern in March of that year with four counts of third-degree sex offense, two counts of unnatural or perverted practices and one count of child pornography.
All of the charges involved sexual interactions in 2009 with a girl who was 15.
At the time of his arrest, the Washington County Warrant Task Force found Mulkern living in a wooded area near Halfway, The Herald-Mail reported.
Mulkern was sent to the Washington County Detention Center at the time. He was released after posting $75,000 bond in April 2010 and didn’t show up for his trial later that year.
Authorities said in 2010 that Mulkern and Michael Zimmer of Finksburg had sex with the girl and took pictures of the acts in 2009.
Zimmer pleaded guilty in October 2010 to four counts of child pornography and was sentenced to five years in prison.
