The Washington County Board of Education’s newly appointed Calendar Committee will hold its first meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Central Office, Deputy Schools Superintendent Boyd Michael said in an email.

The committee will work on calendars for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years.

According to the school system, the voting members of the Calendar Advisory Committee are:

  • Jennifer Ashbaugh and Shannon Bak from the County Citizens Advisory Council.
  • Wendy Golden and Ruth Sklencar from the County PTA.
  • Teachers Donald “Brian” Ansel from Bester Elementary; Mary Newby from Rockland Woods Elementary; Richard Helfrich from E. Russell Hicks Middle; Linda Nairn from Smithsburg Middle; and Stephen Schawalder from Clear Spring High.
  • Educational Support Personnel Jean Harries, a special education paraprofessional from Pangborn Elementary; and Robert Miller, a custodian at Williamsport High.
  • South Hagerstown High junior Nehemiah Teferi and North Hagerstown High senior Peter Reiter.
  • Springfield Middle Assistant Principal Darrell Marriott and Conococheague Elementary Principal Nicole Paylor.
  • Rick Akers, director of secondary education and student services; and Steve Wernick, director of elementary education.
  • At-large members Kim Letendre and Cynthia Myers.
  • Committee Chairman and staff liaison Boyd Michael, who is deputy superintendent of schools.

The at-large members were selected from applications for the position, Michael said.
