Construction crews began work Tuesday on a large Ferris wheel along the Seattle waterfront.
The attraction, being built on Pier 57, will be about 175 feet tall when completed.
The owners of the pier told the Seattle Times the project is designed to bring people to the waterfront during the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement.
Now that the Fun Forest Amusement Park is gone, the new Ferris wheel will be the only one in the city, the Seattle PI reported.
According to The Puget Sound Business Journal, Great Western's Vice President Kyle Griffith said his father, Hal, has wanted to put a Ferris wheel on the pier ever since he installed a carousel on the property more than 20 years ago.
