NEW YORK (WPIX)—The Yankees are finally hosting some National League competition as they welcome the Colorado Rockies to the Stadium.
New York will be sure to appreciate having their designated hitters back and not having to force their pitchers to take at-bats, either.
The Rockies come in as an underachieving team despite having a few studs in their lineup. At the top of their offense Troy Tulowitzki is leading the team in homers (13) and RBI’s (49). Carlos
Gonzalez has also been putting up equally impressive numbers (10) and (43), respectively.
Colorado also boasts Todd Helton and Seth Smith whom are batting .310 and .315 respectively.
The source of the Rockies problems have been with their pitching. Ubaldo Jimenez is not even
close to having the type of season he experienced last year and only Jhoulys Chacin is having a respectable start to the season.
Here are the probable pitchers for the series:
June 24, 7:05 PM ET
A.J Burnett (7-5, 4.05 ERA) – Burnett struck out 8 Cubs in his last outing while recording his second win of the month. However, he is only 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA in his last 3 starts.
Ubaldo Jimenez (2-7, 4.68 ERA) – Jimenez is coming off an All-Star campaign while receiving
serious consideration for the Cy Young. Unfortunately, this season has been the exact opposite
as seen by his stats. He picked up his first home victory of the year in his last start but had to leave early due to leg cramps.
June 25, 1:05 PM ET
C.C Sabathia (9-4, 3.39 ERA) – Sabathia was able to record a victory in his last outing but was
unhappy with the way he pitched. He gave up 4 runs over 7 innings against Chicago. Sabathia has had a very lucky season as he his offense has provided 8.68 runs for him per game.
Aaron Cook (0-2, 4.67 ERA) – Cook has spent the majority of his season on the 60-Day DL and
is still looking for his first win of the season. He gave up 4 runs in 6 innings against the Tigersduring his last start.
June 26, 2:05 PM ET
Ivan Nova (7-4, 4.13 ERA) – Nova is coming off a phenomenal start in which he last eight innings,
struck out seven and only gave up one run. He is 3-0 with a 3.05 ERA in his last 3 starts.
Juan Nicasio (2-1, 4.71 ERA) – Nicasio is coming off a rough start in which he gave up 6 runs. He also has a bloated 6.89 ERA over his last three starts.
Once again, this seems like a team that should be overwhelmed by the Yanks, especially Colorado’s pitchers. It also helps that the Yankees are home for this interleague game. New York should sweep the series but winning two out of three is a must.
