Clemens to give Civil War presentation
Hagerstown Community College professor Thomas Clemens will present a slide presentation of "The Maryland Campaign of September 1862" at a meeting of the Keedysville Historical Society Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 53 N. Main St. in Keedysville.
Enter the Social Hall by the left rear door from the parking lot.
Clemens recently published "The Maryland Campaign of September 1862, Vol. I: South Mountain," the first part of a two-volume historical annotated manuscript that details one of the most famous campaigns of the Civil War.
Clemens' presentation is on the original manuscript, which is the work of Ezra A. Carman, a Union colonel in the 13th New Jersey Infantry, who was later appointed as the historical expert to the Antietam Battlefield Board in 1894.
The 1,800 page manuscript on the Maryland Campaign used firsthand accounts from war veterans and Carman's own personal experience.

Masons to hold open installation
The Worshipful Master, Wardens and Brethren of Antietam Lodge 197 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons invite the community to its Temple at 7 S. Main St. in Keedysville Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. to view a normally closed Masonic ceremony.
The installation of line officers is performed through a time honored ritual in which the marshal installs and invests each member of the incoming line with his special jewel and apron, which are symbols of the fraternity.
Masonry has been steeped in tradition for more than 700 years, and this ceremony gives the public a glimpse into this unknown and sometimes maligned organization.
Masons will also hold a statewide Masonic Open House Saturday, April 2.
For more information, go to http://antietamlodge197.net.
Antietam Lodge 107 meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month and all Masons are invited to attend.

The Rohrersville Ruritan Club will hold an oyster, ham and turkey dinner Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Rohrersville Ruritan Community Schoolhouse (five miles south of Boonsboro on Md. 67).
