Building for Hunger is a charity event involving local schools and area businesses.
The event is a partnership with the local Washington County Hunger Group, Valley Mall, participating schools, sponsoring businesses, and of course, the local community supplying canned and boxed foods that will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank — Western Maryland Division (formerly Food Resources Inc.
Donation bins for nonperishable boxed and canned food items will be in the Food Court area and Center Court area of the mall.
Students from participating schools will build a sculpture in a designated 10-foot-by-10-foot space and compete for cash prizes. Canned and boxed food sculptures will be constructed on Saturday, Feb. 9. Final judging will be Sunday, Feb. 10.
A donation of a penny per vote will benefit the food bank.
Dental center to hold food drive
Allegany Dental Care is holding its sixth annual food drive during January and February. It will accept donations of nonperishable food items at its three locations.
All food collected will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank — Western Maryland Branch (formerly Food Resources Inc.)
The locations are 19418 Leitersburg Pike, 22109 Jefferson Blvd. and 17719 Virginia Ave.
The offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Little League rules clinic
Maryland District 1 Little League will conduct a free rules clinic for umpires, managers and league officers on Tuesday nights starting Feb. 5 and running through March 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 19644 Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown.
New rules/rule changes for baseball and softball regarding, but not limited to, illegal bat penalties, pitch count changes, new softball bat regulations will be covered, as well as the basic rules of the game.
