The Hagerstown SCORE Chapter, in cooperation with CPA firm Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. LLC, will offer the chapter’s seventh annual free public service tax workshop Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College’s Technical Innovation Center, room 323.
The snow date is Feb. 19.
The workshop is designed to assist participants in understanding and filing 2012 state and federal tax returns. Topics will include business use of your home; completing Form 941 (employer’s quarterly federal tax return) and Form 940 (employer’s annual unemployment tax return); and employment taxes — basic handling of the withholding taxes such as federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.
The workshop is ideal for newer small businesses, as well as those considering starting a business. Advance registration is recommended by calling 301-766-2043.
The presenter will be Sandra Tillou, certified public accountant and consultant to Smith Elliott Kearns & Co., who will be available to answer questions during the workshop.
Attendees also will be able to apply for free SCORE mentoring on issues including small-business budgeting, cash-flow projections, financing, tax planning and business planning.
