Jim Powers will hold his ballroom dance party Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Club building. Admission costs $4 per person.

AARP meeting
Washington County AARP Chapter 623 will meet Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. in the auditorium of Western Maryland Hospital Center on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown.

The Washington County Girls Softball League will hold registration for the 2012 season.
Signup will be at Dick's Sporting Goods on Feb. 4, 5, 18 and 19 from noon to 6 p.m. If you can't make those days, Extra Innings of Hagerstown has a few more dates for you — from 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 24, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 25. TOPS, or Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 0462 in Smithsburg had a good year with most of the chapter members getting closer to their personal weight-loss goals.
Dale reached his goal for the year and Mack was able to maintain his goal weight all year long.
The group meets Thursdays at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Smithsburg. Weigh-in starts at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m.
