Kids Alive Fest planned at Children's Village

Children’s Village of Washington County will host its 21st annual Kids Alive Fest, Open House/Community-Safety Day, Saturday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children’s Village campus, 1546 Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown.

Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine.

  • Noon — K-9 demonstration (Maryland Correctional Institution)
  • 1 p.m. — Auto extrication demonstration (Maugansville Fire Co)
  • Helicopter landing/Medevac demonstration, weather/emergency calls permitting (Air Methods Corp., Life Net 81)
  • 2 p.m. — Ronald McDonald safety show

Additional activities: Child identification using MdCHIP program (Grand Lodge of Maryland).

Representatives from area organizations will participate with safety-related displays and/or activities.

There will be continuous tours of the Power of Fire House.

Families also will have the opportunity to complete safety stations throughout the day to experience what students coming to Children’s Village learn during the school year.

Tickets may be purchased for weather-permitting activities including mini-car rides, radar gun contest (Smithsburg Police Department), and fire hose spraying challenge (Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co.). 

Food from the Hagerstown Lions Club and funnel cakes from the Williamsport Lions Club will be sold.

Volvo Powertrain is the event sponsor.

Children’s Village is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free safety education to elementary school children in  the county.

Garden club

On Tuesday, May 22,  from 1 to 4 p.m., Antietam Garden Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

In celebration, the club will present “A Standard Flower Show” at Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown.

The show will be held in the second-floor auditorium.

The show will include six arrangement categories and horticulture specimens. The free event is open to the public.
