Funkstown American Legion Post 211 has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Sharpsburg resident Paige Marshall, a 2012 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a freshman engineering major at Penn State University. Paige will receive an additional $1,000 per year if she maintains a 3.0 grade point average.
Paige is the daughter of Kim Marshall and the granddaughter of Joe and MaryAnn Eichelberger and Terry and Janet Marshall. Paige is the great-granddaughter of Amelia “Pansy” Davis of Sharpsburg.
Kelsey Barnhart joins St. Mark’s Zumba
Licensed Zumba instructor Kelsey Barnhart will begin teaching Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Parish Hall, Lappans Road, Boonsboro. Students holding current class cards may use them for Kelsey’s classes through Dec. 17; first time guests are welcome to try one class for free during October only.
A new class, Zumba Sentao, will be at 6:45 Mondays. Class cards may be used for this class through Dec. 17; first-time guests are welcome to try one class for free during Oct. only.

Rohrersville Ruritan to hold Fall Fest
The Rohrersville Ruritan will hold a Fall Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Rohrersville Ruritan Community Park. Children’s activities will include pumpkin painting and a costume contest (adults included) at 3 p.m. A free tractor pull will start at 11 a.m. Food will be available for purchase. Keith Alexander to speak at Ferry Hill
Shepherd University professor Keith Alexander will speak from 1 to 2 p.m. at Ferry Hill Place. Alexander will speak from the front porch of the large brick plantation home on the Maryland side of the Potomac River across from Shepherdstown, W.Va. Alexander will discuss local building materials and styles during the early 19th century, the time of the construction of Ferry Hill. Admission is free; visitors are asked to bring their own chairs. EMS hosts basket, cash bingo
The Sharpsburg EMS will host a fall basket and cash bingo Saturday at the Potomac Valley Fire Hall in Dargan. Tickets cost $20 each and include 29 games of bingo. All baskets will be filled with goodies.

Goat farm to hold open house
Caprikorn Farms, which raises Saanen goats, will open the farm to the public and community for an open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tours of the goat-milking facility and a goat petting zoo will be available. Admission is free, but there is a $1 charge to milk a goat or feed treats to the petting zoo goats. In the event of rain, the event will be held the following weekend.
Caprikorn Farms is located on the corner of Townsend Road and Md. 67, south of Boonsboro.
Ambulance company to hold barbecue
The Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Company will hold a chicken barbecue bake sale and soup sale from 9 a.m. until sold out Saturday at the station, 7619 Old National Pike.
