With the crisp mornings, I tend to crave soups and pies.
St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church has the answer.
The church, on Maryland Avenue across from the South End Shopping Center, will offer a pie, soup and apple dumpling sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Pies offered include apple, peach, cherry, pumpkin and egg custard. Sandwiches on the menu include chicken salad, egg salad and beef and pickle.
Soups will be chicken and corn, chicken noodle, vegetable beef, and ham and bean. All items are homemade and available for carry-out.
Fire company plans open house
The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will hold an open house Saturday in observance of Fire Prevention Week.
The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its facility on Westside Avenue.
There will be children’s games and demonstrations on fire safety.
Coach and cash bingo
Tickets are available for Halfway Little League’s Coach and cash bingo planned for Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Funkstown American Legion. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Prizes awarded will be 20 Coach bags stuffed with goodies and five cash prizes.
Tickets cost $30 each and include 25 games of bingo. There will be tip jars, including King Tut, plus door prizes and a 50-50.
Lunch will be available to purchase from the Funkstown Legion.

More bingo planned
On Sunday, Nov. 4, a bingo event will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Virginia Avenue in Halfway.
The event, hosted by St. James Catholic Church of Boonsboro, will be held in St. Joseph’s Riggie Hall. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the first number will be called at 2 p.m.
Thirty One and Longaberger baskets and items will be featured. There will be 20 games with three specials. Concessions will be available for purchase. Along with bingo, there will also be a silent auction, raffles, and door prizes. For more information, call Karen at 301-432-2887.
