The annual 6th Congressional District We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition was held at Hagerstown Community College on Wednesday. The simulated Congressional hearing included high schools participants from Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown, Williamsport, St. Maria Goretti and Gerstell Academy. Each school team consisted of Advanced Placement Government students who demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles. Students evaluated, took and defended positions on relevant historical and contemporary issues. The culminating activity for each team was testimony before a panel of judges in a simulated congressional hearing format. The winning team will represent the 6th Congressional District in the Maryland State competition in Annapolis on Feb. 14, 2013.
