It’ll be hot outside on Saturday, but the music will be free at the Battle of the Bands at Wilson College.
Bands performing between 2 and about 8 p.m. will be Breach the Silence, Defyance, Endangered Species and Love Hate Thing. A judge’s panel will choose the overall winner, and fans will vote for the “People’s Choice” with cash donations. In addition to cash prizes, the winning bands will receive radio exposure on 101.5 Bob Rocks.
The ChambersFest event will be in an open field at Wilson, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., where shade trees will provide some relief from the high temperatures expected on Saturday. Those attending may bring lawn chairs, blankets to sit on, and beverages (alcohol is not permitted). Food and beverage vendors will include Bruster's Real Ice Cream, Hot Dogs Plus and Rita's.
“Last year, it was 103 degrees when we had this event, and it drew more than 500 people,” said Kathy Leedy, events coordinator for the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce. “People should prepare for another hot day and take precautions by drinking plenty of fluids and seeking protection from the sun,” she said. Signs and volunteers will direct traffic.
The Chamber of Commerce is working closely with Verstandig Broadcasting and its 101.5 Bob Rocks radio station on the event. Blake Truman, general manager of VerStandig Broadcasting, is chairman of the ChambersFest Committee.
Students from Cumberland Valley School of Music will perform in exhibition and assist at the event.
