MARTINSBURG, W.Va. —Kindergarten through 12th-grade students enrolled in Berkeley County Schools will attend school Wednesday on a two-hour delay schedule due to the first of six planned collaborative instructional sessions for teachers.
The schedule for pre-kindergarten students is not affected by the "Accrued Instructional Time" days, which have been scheduled for the following Wednesdays; Sept. 12, Oct. 24, Dec. 5, Jan. 16, Feb. 6 and March 13, according to school officials.
In the two-hour time frame, teachers are expected to will work together in teams to study data, set goals for increasing student achievement, and share instructional strategies.
Students last year were dismissed from classes two hours early on the instructional days, Berkeley County Schools spokesperson Leah Daniel said.
"We think it is easier to keep kids home an extra two hours in the morning than send them home early," Daniel said Tuesday.
