HARPERS FERRY, W.Va.—
West Virginia State Police said they found the body of a man near his home when they responded to a fire there on Friday.The body of Larry Allen, 59, was found in a gray Hyundai Accent in the yard near his home at 553 Halltown Road, near Harpers Ferry, police said in a news release.
Police said they don’t suspect foul play and are continuing to investigate what happened.
At about 6:15 a.m. on Friday, Jefferson County’s 911 center dispatched a call for a structure fire at that address. Bystanders had reported that the homeowner might be trapped inside.
Police said Troopers T.S. Perry and A.L. Miller saw that the home was “engulfed in flames” and broke in to look for people, but didn’t find anyone.
Emergency workers and firefighters from the Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, Shepherdstown and Independent fire companies responded to the call.
