A 59-year-old man is accused of soliciting prostitution Thursday in a City Hospital parking lot in Martinsburg, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.
Dennis M. Hawley of 484 Williamsport Pike, Martinsburg, was arraigned by Magistrate Harry L. Snow on one misdemeanor count of soliciting prostitution, according to court records.
The woman allegedly involved told police that the defendant offered to pay her $140 when he first asked her to have sex with him, according to court documents.
Hawley told police that he was waiting on a friend he dropped off at the hospital to visit a patient, the court records said. Officers initially responded to investigate a report of suspicious activity in the hospital’s parking lot, the records said.
After the officers left, hospital security called police, advising they saw a person in a similar vehicle “partaking in what they believed to be sexual behaviors,” Martinsburg Police Department Patrol Officer J.S. Everhart said in a complaint filed in magistrate court Thursday.
Police later found the vehicle traveling on Old Mill Road, which is in the vicinity of the hospital. It was being driven by a female, the records said.
Police said the woman indicated that she and Hawley left the hospital parking lot after agreeing to have sex on the condition that he buy heroin so she could get high, the records said.
The woman said the defendant offered to get her high all day long if she would have sex with him, the records said.
Police were also told by the woman that they had sexual intercourse off Showers Lane and were returning to City Hospital when the officer caught up with them, the records said.
