MARTINSBURG, W.Va. —A Martinsburg man accused of shooting another man in the mouth Sunday was being held in Eastern Regional Jail on felony charges of malicious wounding and distribution of heroin Monday night, according to court and jail records.
Russell A. Holt, 39, of 1406 Lindsey Terrace Drive, #6, was incarcerated on bonds totaling $300,000, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court and jail records.
Martinsburg Police Sgt. S.F. Doyle said in his criminal complaint that the shooting victim was unable to talk or give a written statement at City Hospital where he was being treated, but nodded multiple times and pointed to a photograph of the defendant as being the shooter, according to court documents.
Police found a .40 caliber shell casing and a tooth in the area of a gravel parking lot on Commerce Avenue, behind 311 North Maple Ave., according to court documents.
Officers were able to track blood to the parking lot after witnesses told police Sunday that they believed the shooting occurred behind the 200 block of West Race Street, according to court documents.
The victim was found by police in the 100 block of West Race Street, according to court documents.
In the heroin case, West Virginia State Police Cpl. Brian Bean said in a criminal complaint against Holt that he was identified as the man who sold five packs of heroin to a confidential informant in December 2012 in Martinsburg, according to court documents.
