Why endure a long wait in an emergency room for a simple case of the sniffles or a bad strain, when MedExpress officials say their clinic can have you on your way quickly without denting your pocketbook?
The newest urgent care, walk-in clinic located at 1048 Lincoln Way East, in Chambersburg, Pa., opened May 19, with hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
"At MedExpress, we are committed to exceeding patient expectations," said Dr. Frank Alderman, chief executive officer of MedExpress. "We do this by delivering timely, affordable, high-quality urgent care at all of our centers. We are truly excited about becoming a part of the Chambersburg community and look forward to offering each and every patient great care."
The center provides care for children 6 months old to senior citizens.
Dan Gray, MedExpress's director of business operations, said the Chambersburg clinic employs about 25.
"We provide all sorts of services. The biggest service is filling the gap between your primary-care physician and/or the emergency room," Gray said. "People can come in for all sorts of ailments, and we're equipped to handle all of it."
Gray said sometimes there's no replacement for a trip to the emergency room.
"But, conversely, the emergency room is really not where someone needs to be for a cold or a sprain," he said.
Four physicians started MedExpress in September 2001 after realizing that patients waited many needless hours in emergency rooms when their health issues could have been handled in a less emergent manner.
Gray said that's how the first MedExpress started in Morgantown, W. Va.
Now, there are 60 centers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Florida and Colorado.
