More than 1,400 people cast ballots on the first day of early voting in Berkeley and Jefferson counties, according to county election officials.
In Berkeley County, 828 people voted, and in Jefferson County, 600 people voted, officials in each county’s voter registration office reported shortly after 5 p.m.
Early voting at county courthouses and courthouse annexes across West Virginia will continue until 5 p.m. on Nov. 3, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
The early voting period includes two Saturdays, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. The hours for early voting in both counties is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Berkeley County residents may vote early at the county courthouse annex at 110 W. King St. in Martinsburg and voters in Jefferson County can cast ballots at 100 E. Washington St. in Charles Town at the county courthouse.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, more than 100,000 Berkeley and Jefferson county residents are registered to vote in the upcoming Nov. 6 general election. Statewide, more than 1.2 million people are registered for the vote.
