Local authorities apparently got through the Labor Day holiday weekend without any major emergency calls in the Tri-State area.

A portion of Buchanan Trail West in Mercersburg, Pa., was closed Monday morning due to power lines being knocked down from a storm that passed through the area, according to Franklin County Emergency Services.

The 6200 block of Buchanan Trail West, between Woods Road and Welsh Run Road, was closed at about 6 a.m. Monday, a 911 dispatcher said.

As of 8:40 p.m., the road apparently remained closed, according to a dispatcher.

West Virginia State Police reported arresting 12 people on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol during the weekend in Berkeley and Jefferson counties.

The two-day Collision Accident Reduction Effort started 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.

"Focus was placed upon roadways with high traffic crashes and fatalities," police said in a news release.

Meanwhile, Maryland Natural Resources Police said they arrested four people in Washington County on Sunday on charges of operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol, including:

  • Todd Price Morningstar, 48, of Hagerstown
  • Howard Weeks Jr., 53, of Hagerstown
  • James Frieda, 59, of Williamsport
  • Thomas Shank, 23, of Hagerstown

Natural Resources Police said in a news release that officers made the arrests as they patrolled the Potomac River in the Big Slackwater area.
