A Shippensburg woman was taken to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center on Wednesday after she allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of a Saturn sedan and crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer, according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police.
Karen Fedele, 51, of Shippensburg, was driving a 2002 Saturn north on Pa. 696 at about 2:52 p.m. Wednesday when the accident occurred, state police said.
The Saturn crossed the center line and hit the back of a 1996 Mack tractor-trailer driven by Jennifer S. Meis, 48, of Lomira, Wis., state police said.
Fedele had to be extricated from the Saturn and was taken via ambulance to Hershey Medical Center, state police said. Fedele was in serious condition at the hospital Sunday night, a hospital spokesman said.
Meis was not injured, state police said.
