A Jefferson County man was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Tuesday after he was struck by the side of a tractor-trailer while crossing U.S. 340 at Jefferson Terrace Road, the Charles Town Police Department said.

Scott Michael Hundley, 18, of 74 Jeep Trail in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., was crossing the highway at 11:34 a.m. when the accident occurred, according to a news release from Charlestown police Sgt. W.M. Spessert.

Hundley was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital before being flown to the shock trauma center, Spessert said.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Jerry L. Hale Jr., 43, of 125 Greenbriar Lane in Stuarts Draft, Va., Spessert said.

The tractor-trailer is owned by Keystone Freight Corp. of North Bergen, N.J.

The area around the scene of the crash was shut down for about two hours after the accident, Spessert said.

The investigation is continuing, Spessert said.
