Warrants issued Wednesday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court charge two men in the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man at a Martinsburg-area sports bar in September, according to court records and police.
Christopher R. Wyche, 22, and Rashaun R. Boyd, 29, are incarcerated on other charges in North Carolina and Maryland, respectively, according to court records and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Gary Harmison.
Samson Edmond of Columbus, Miss., was pronounced dead at City Hospital in Martinsburg on Sept. 16 after being shot once in the chest at The Brickhouse Bar & Grill along Mid-Atlantic Parkway, police had said. The club has since closed.
Edmond was shot after an argument with the two men, who were persons of interest almost from the beginning of the investigation, Harmison said
Harmison said investigating Deputy William Christian was able to obtain the warrants through additional investigation of forensic and video evidence.
Edmond’s driver’s license gave a Mississippi address, but investigators learned he had been working in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
A Purple Heart recipient, Edmond was injured by an improvised explosive device while serving in Iraq in 2005 and 2006 with the Mississippi National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 114th Field Artillery, a Mississippi National Guard spokesman said after the shooting.
Edmond went to the club near Exit 16 off Interstate 81 with a friend who served in Iraq with him, police had said.
Edmond was not armed at the time of the shooting, police had said.
Harmison did not know when the two men might be extradited back to West Virginia to be arraigned on the murder charges.
