Waynesboro attorney Colleen M. Rettig was released Friday from Franklin County Jail after posting $50,000 bail on charges of stabbing her husband, Dr. Stephen Rettig, Wednesday night.

Colleen Rettig, 56, 10988 Fish and Game Road, Waynesboro, is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, according to a police affidavit.

Washington Township police said they were called to the Rettig home for an active domestic dispute involving a weapon at 10:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found Stephen Rettig on the porch sitting on a chair with his right pant leg soaked in blood, the affidavit said.

Stephen Rettig told police that he and his wife argued over their 18-year-old son using Colleen Rettig’s laptop to apply to colleges, the affidavit said.

Stephen Rettig told police that his wife became enraged, began yelling and screaming at him, and grabbed a knife and came at him, the report said.

He got the knife away from Colleen Rettig and pushed her away, police said. But she grabbed another knife and came after him again, he told police.

He also was able to take that knife away from her, but she came at him  and ripped the front of his shirt, the police report said.

Colleen Rettig then grabbed a magic marker and attempted to write on Stephen Rettig’s face and chest, police said. Stephen Rettig told police he pushed her away and tried to stay away from her.

His wife then left the room, but after a couple of minutes, returned with another sharp object in her hand, according to the affidavit.

Stephen Rettig told police he did not know what the sharp object was. He said it may have been a nail file or a pair of scissors.

He tried to get the sharp object away from her, but when she swung it, it struck him on the right thigh, the report said.

The laceration was about 1 1/2 inches wide and deep, and he also had numerous scratches across his chest, police said in the report.

A family member transported Stephen Rettig to the Waynesboro Hospital emergency room for treatment of his injuries.

Colleen Rettig was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jody Eyer on Thursday and held in Franklin County Jail on $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court.

Efforts to reach Colleen Rettig at her home by phone were unsuccessful.
