167th Airlift Wing to host shooter exercise Wednesday
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The 167th Airlift Wing is slated to hold an active shooter exercise Wednesday starting at 8 a.m.
Outside agencies, including local emergency responders and other military units throughout the state, will be participating in the exercise, according to a news release.
All communications, telephone or radio, for the exercise will begin with “exercise, exercise, exercise” or “this is an exercise message.” There might be increased traffic into the base.
Wing officials want the public to know that there is no reason for concern.
Shepherd to host sessions for Mountain State students
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University will host information sessions for Mountain State students on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., and Aug. 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Erma Ora Byrd Hall on Shepherd’s campus.
Shepherd representatives from the office of admissions (undergraduate and graduate), financial aid and registrar’s office will be available during the sessions.

Big Latch On event planned in Jefferson County
RANSON, W.Va. — To raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for global support, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action organizes World Breastfeeding Week.
To mark this occasion on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m., thousands of breastfeeding women and their babies/children across the world will gather in their own communities to take part in the Big Latch On, a synchronized breastfeeding event in multiple locations.
In the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, a Big Latch On will take place Saturday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital’s first-floor conference room. Tours of the hospital’s obstetrics unit will be available following the event.
