“I know people get nervous when snow starts to come in and we’re more than happy to be here to help them stock up.”

And of course, the basics go first.

“It’s beer it’s wine it’s bread, eggs,” said Linson.

Linson says he’ll stay open later to cater to the downtown foot-traffic if the weather gets bad, but residents tell your Hometown News Leader, they’re getting ready now.

“I got a 4-wheel drive, we usually stock up cabinets anyway though, so I generally don’t have a worry,” Thomas Douglas of Garden City told WDBJ7.

Walter Williams of Roanoke said, "mainly just making sure we have water, we got food in the house, got gas and stuff in case we do need to get out.”

But getting out isn’t something you’ll want to do if Old Man Winter finally comes to town.

To that end, VDOT is reminding drivers to stay off the roads if possible especially if the weather gets bad. It's safer and it helps VDOT workers get their jobs done more effectively when there aren't unnecessary vehicles on the road.
