The Museum’s annual family-centered holiday event will offer train rides, take-your-own pictures with Santa, crafts, model trains and holiday music.

Reduced admission for the entire weekend: $5 per person.

Museum members and infants 2 and under admitted free.

Train rides are $2 per person per ride, including Museum Members.

 Infants 2 and under ride the train free-of-charge.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation announces that the annual Candy Cane Express will take place on Saturday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, December 9, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The day includes train rides, Santa, crafts and holiday fun designed for the whole family.

The proceeds from the train ticket sales will offset fuel and operating costs of the locomotive.

Take a ride in a vintage caboose!  The Roanoke Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will operate the Candy Cane Express, a four-car train that’s comprised of vintage rail cars.

Enjoy a special reading of “The Polar Express” by the Roanoke County Library in the N&W Safety Car 418, the Museum’s 48-seat railcar theatre.

Bring a camera and take a picture with Santa! (Just in time for holiday cards.)

Children are invited to decorate an ornament for their holiday tree.
