Separate subway accidents Sunday took the life of one man, and has left another in serious condition.The first happened around 5:15 a.m. in the Broadway-31st Street station in Astoria, Queens. According to authorities, a 24-year-old man, who was drunk -- fell on to the elevated tracks. He died after a city-bound N train crushed him.
The second incident occurred approximately three hours later on the approach to the 96th Street station at Central Park West. A MTA spokeman said the 46-year-old victim was in the tunnel just south of the station, when a northbound C train slammed into him around 8:00 a.m. The train operator saw him, but couldn't stop in time, Kevin Ortiz explained.
Passengers were stuck underground for approximately an hour-and-a-half.
The victim was taken to nearby St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital with head trauma, and according to officials, he's expected to live.
