LANCASTER CITY—A Lancaster City teenager is facing charges after making false abduction claims to police. Investigators say 19 year-old Symone Stevens, lied to relatives, friends and police when she claimed she had been kidnapped on September 1st.
Police say Steven's originally told family that she was meeting a talent agent and was going to Las Vegas, Nevada for 6 months. Shortly after Stevens left to meet the talent agent, her family and friends began receiving alarming phone calls and text messages. In the those conversations she stated that she had been abducted and she was hurt.
Investigators determined that Steven's was in Berks County and began actively searching for her. State Police Helicopters were brought in to aid in the search as well as several law enforcement agencies.
Reading City Police located Steven's safe and unharmed on the evening of September 2nd and began questioning her about the abduction.
After several leads did not match up to Steven's original story, she confessed that she had made the entire story up.
Police say Steven's admitted to contacting a friend to pick her up in Lancaster and take her to a friend's home in Reading for the weekend and that she had never been abducted.
Stevens is charged with making false reports to law enforcement.
