SOUTH BEND – A new direct flight from South Bend to the west has taken off.
Frontier Airlines made its maiden flight from South Bend to Denver Friday morning.
South Bend's mayor, people with Frontier Airlines and several passengers were on hand to welcome the airline to the airport.
The plane arrived full Thursday night in South Bend and left full on Friday.
“With the connectivity to Denver as we know, Denver has 80 cities that you can connect from there to other places that Frontier flies,” said St. Joseph County Airport Authority Executive Director Mike Daigle. “But the interesting thing is out of our top 25 markets, people within our region, where they’re traveling, 9 of those are Denver and beyond, and so this is a great opportunity for people then to have another choice.”
4 weekly direct flights to and from Denver are being offered with the average roundtrip fare $200 or less.
