Mr. Alvie N. Covell, 90, of Walkersville, Md., passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Northampton Manor Health Care Center in Frederick, Md.
He was the husband of the late Anna Mae Covell. They were married for 54 years.
Born Sept. 4, 1920, in Ijamsville, Md., he was the son of the late Alonzo and Bessie Covell.
Alvie was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walkersville. He was still an active member of the finance committee.
He was a 1938 graduate of Frederick High School.
He was a manager of the Tivoli Theater from 1940 to 1950. Alvie worked at Farmers & Mechanics Bank from 1950 to 1989, and he was the manager of that office from 1967 until his retirement.
He was also a member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co. and the Walkersville Rescue Co., and a previous member of the Glade Valley Lions Club.
Alvie enjoyed all sports, and he loved to attend Mount St. Mary's University and Hood College sporting events.
He is survived by a son, Charles E. Covell of Walkersville; a sister, Bertha Nicholson of Frederick; a brother-in-law, Melvin E. Filler and wife, Esther, of Walkersville; and a niece, Ruth Nicholson of Frederick.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, on Tuesday, May 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service to celebrate Alvie's life will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville, with Mark L. Foucart officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount St. Mary's athletic department; Hood College athletic facility campaign, Saint Paul's Lutheran Church memorial fund, or to a charity of one's choice.
