Anna Elizabeth Nalls Whittington Burgan, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sept. 1, 2012, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born March 7, 1922, in Aldie, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ashley Nalls and the late Ruth Elizabeth (Whittington) Nalls.
She worked at Peoples Drug Store, retiring after 42 years. People would come up to her and say “I know you from somewhere,” and she would reply, “I worked at Peoples Drug Store,” and they would say, “That’s it!”
She was a member of the Celebrity Bowling League for 34 years and was still bowling at the age of 87. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling. Being with her family brought her much joy and happiness.
She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Strock (Jay), Greencastle, Pa., Beverly Bowers (Glenn), Hagerstown, and Kay Izer (Larry), Williamsport, Md.; two sons, David Burgan (Jan), Clear Spring, Md., and Dennis Burgan (Debbie), Williamsport; eight grandchildren, Dwayne Shrader, Pamela Kreps, Mark Bowers, Stephanie Kendall, Kelly Izer, Brittany Ardinger, Danielle Westenmeyer and Dustin Westenmeyer; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Leroy “Peck” Burgan, in 1994; one daughter, Gay L. McKinster; one daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Burgan; and one brother, Victor H. McSherry.
Services will be Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Lowans officiating.
Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Mom’s home for the past 2 1/2 years has been at Coffman Nursing Home. The care that she received while there was given with professionalism, kindness and love, and for that, we are forever grateful.
