Arthur David Painter, 86, of Boonsboro, Md., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md., peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Born Nov. 14, 1925, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Ray and Frances Rosetta Johnson Painter.
He was a 1943 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
He was employed by the U.S. government until retiring in 1982. He worked for the Army Map Service and the Topographical Command.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was member of Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.
He was a dedicated family man and loved by many.
He was a devout Yankees fan and a patriotic American.
He is survived by his wife, Edith A. "Pat" Schroder Painter, married for 64 years; son, Robert M. Painter and wife, Sally, of Delray Beach, Fla.; daughter, Deborah A. Dickey-Anderson and her husband, Mike, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; granddaughter, Julie L. Painter of Olney, Md., and her children, Natalie and Griffin; grandson, Michael D. Painter and his wife, Betsy, and their son, Miles, of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Tyler J. Painter of Delray Beach; and brother, Ralph "Johnny" Hammond of Sharpsburg.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jake Snavely.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, with the Rev. Anne Weatherholt officiating.
