David H. "Holliday" Martin, 86, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.
Born May 12, 1926, in Cearfoss, he was the son of the late Peter Lesher and Helen Shank Martin.
Holliday removed himself from high school at the age of 17 to enter the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Currier during World War II. He later received his high school diploma.
He worked for 35 years for Verizon.
Holliday last attended Mount Tabor Lutheran Church of Fairview.
He was a member of Clear Spring American Legion Post 222 and The Pioneers (a group of former phone company employees).
He enjoyed gardening.
His wife, Dolores A. Hawbecker Martin, died Oct. 17, 2007.
He is survived by a daughter, Elona G. and husband, Grayson Smith, of Conyers, Ga.; two sons, Garth A. and wife, Patsy L. Martin, of Clear Spring, and Keith E. and wife, Barbara Martin, of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ferrari of Ardsley, N.Y.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
At Mr. Martin's request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.
