Ella Mae Towe, 78, of Garden Lane, Hagerstown, died peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Williamsport Retirement Village, where she was convalescing.
Born Feb. 9, 1934, at The Hollow, Patrick County, Va., she was the daughter of Walter Payton Bowman and Mahala Odessa Marshall.
One sister, Mrs. Betty Edwards of Walkertown, N.C., survives her.
She was very active and continued to work at Shoney's Restaurant in Hagerstown until her recent illness. She was employed there for 16 years. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her great-grandchildren and friends.
She was a longtime member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one son, E. Mitchell Towe (Mary) of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Mark Munson, Scott Munson, Andrea Towe Heise (William) and Christine Towe; and nine great-grandchildren, Leah, Thomas, Taylor, Kandice, Bill, Kassidy, Lawrence, Justin and Zachary.
She donated her body to medical research.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Holiday Staff Fund of Williamsport Retirement Village, 154 N. Artizan St., Williamsport, MD 21795.
