"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life." John 10:27-28.
Ernest William Cole of Hagerstown, Md., embraced God's comfort and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, following a short illness. He was the beloved brother of Phillip Smothers (Judy) of Laurel, Md., and James E. Cole (Kim) of Frederick, Md.
Army National Guard in 1979, and later worked as a custodian, until he was medically unable to continue. An avid fisherman, Ernest was always looking for an opportunity to cast his rod; the more catfish he caught, the bigger the smile. He had a kind heart that touched many as he made his way along the streets of Hagerstown on his "signature red scooter," or when "passing the time" in front of the doorway of the Alexander House, the place he called home.
Ernest was a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and an active member of Light of the World Church of God. In addition to his brothers, he leaves to cherish his memories a host of family members and friends, which include the devoted Johnson family; his favorite cousin, Ernest Johnson; and devoted family friend, Michelle Myers.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Frances Cole; adopted father, Harry Cole; and sisters, Mary Cole, Melvina Cole and Frances Johnson.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at Light of the World Church of God, 1131 Conrad Court (American Red Cross building rear entrance), Hagerstown, MD 21740. Pastor Melvin R. Wallace will be officiating. Interment will be private.
