Eugene Ray "Gene" Hornbaker, 84, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1928, in Downsville, Md., to the late Ralph Jacob and Mary Margaret Boppe Hornbaker.
He was employed by Danzer Metal Works of Halfway, Md., until retiring in 1991. He was previously employed by Fairchild Aircraft and Horn Construction of Hagerstown, Md., and Tri Fab Corporation of Waynesboro, Pa.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Philippines. He had security clearance to work at secretive government locations in Maryland and Colorado.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
He was a member of the Aviation Museum in Hagerstown. He volunteered to serve as a "Seagoing Cowboy," which was part of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the Brethren Service Committee of the Church of the Brethren to help countries rebuild after the second World War.
Survivors include: his wife, Mabel Elizabeth "Sissie" Nalley Hornbaker of Williamsport, whom he married March 26, 1951; daughter, Connie E. Harsh and her husband, David, of Williamsport; son, Larry E. Hornbaker of Hagerstown; sister, Rachel Daley of Funkstown, Md.; sister, Mary M. Jordan of St. James, Md.; brother, Leo H. Hornbaker of Clear Spring, Md.; brother, Roger S. Hornbaker of Williamsport; bother, Frank R. Hornbaker of Fayetteville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Susan Lange of Williamsport; granddaughter, Thelma VonAlt and her husband, William, of Williamsport; and great-grandchildren, Jimmy Lange, Caroline Lange, Liam VonAlt, Drew VonAlt, Tev VonAlt and D.J. VonAlt.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John F. Hornbaker and Floyd N. Hornbaker.
The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. A. Paul Harne and the Rev. Shawn Bushman officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
