Frank Edgar Brumback M.D., 89, of Jacksonville, N.C., died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at his home.
Doc, as he was known, graduated from Hagerstown High School, Class of 1939, Mercersburg Academy, Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. His internship was served at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Md.
He served in the U.S. Army as a general surgeon, obtaining the rank of captain during the Korean War.
He practiced general surgery in Hagerstown, Md., and was later the head of the domiciliary at Newton D. Baker VA Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Doc was very active in the Boy Scouts, serving in Hagerstown as troop master of Troop No. 4 for 19 years. He enjoyed boating, bird watching, traveling in his Airstream travel trailer and photography.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Mary Yeager Brumback; and a granddaughter, Margo Sylvester.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Elisabeth M. Brumback of Jacksonville; one son, John Brumback of Warrenton, Va.; three daughters, Lynne Boppe and her husband, Eric, of Hagerstown, Barbara Sylvester and her husband, John, of Warrenton, and Diana Kershner and her husband, Vaughn, of Spartanburg, S.C.; one granddaughter, Jan Sylvester Williamson of Landenberg, Pa.; and two great-grandchildren.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, friends are invited to join Doc's family between 2 and 4 p.m. for a time of reminiscing and fellowship at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
