Frank Junior Mathis, 73, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, peacefully at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1939, in Hazelwood, N.C., he was the son of the late Benjamin Travis Leroy and Martha Jane Trull Mathis.
Frank had worked in construction for 48 years, and most recently with Accubid Excavating in Mount Airy, Md., as a superintendent, until retiring in 2006. He previously was employed with Metrex Excavating in Greenbelt, Md., and W.D. Pleasant Excavating in Clarksburg, Md. After his retirement he enjoyed farming.
He attended Valley Assembly of God, Halfway, Md.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR races, Washington Redskins, and cheering on his grandchildren playing sports.
Survivors include wife, Betty Jane Trent Mathis, married Sept. 13, 1958, of Williamsport; daughter, Barbara J. McKinsey and her husband, Robert Jr., of Williamsport; daughter, Cindy L. Taylor and her husband, Andy Sr., of Williamsport; sister, Frances I. Mathis of North Carolina; brother, Bobby J. Mathis of Tontitown, Ark.; brother, Clayton L. Mathis of Waynesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Amber and her husband, John, Andy Jr. and his wife, Brittany, Aerik and wife, Lea, Adam, Austin, Aaron, Matthew, Robbie, and Bobby; great-grandson, Gage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel M. Goodson; and three brothers, Roy Mathis, Eddie Mathis and Herman Mathis.
The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Valley Assembly of God, Halfway, on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Robert C. Jones officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
