Born in Williamsport, July 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Raymond Henry and Dorothy Irene Byers Gruber.
Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He retired as a Trooper First Class from the Maryland State Police in 1992; and, following retirement, he served for seven years as a deputy with the Washington County Register of Wills.
He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church.
Gary was a member of Medairy Lodge 140 AF & AM of Williamsport, where he was past master; Scottish Rite 32nd Degree and the Ali Ghan Shrine, both of Cumberland, Md.; the Maryland Troopers Association; the Western Maryland Troopers Association; Fraternal Order of Police Thomas Pangborn Lodge 88 of Hagerstown; Conococheague Tribe 84 Improved Order of Red Men, and American Legion Potomac Post 202, both of Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christy Jean Gruber; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Gruber of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Sherry Jean Willetts of Hagerstown; and a nephew, James Willetts and his family of Williamsport.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795, with Dr. James E. Swecker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be at 5:45 p.m. Sunday and for the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Sunday at 1 p.m.
