Gerald Owen Morganthall Sr., 92, of Greenfield, Ind., and formerly of 130 Fairview Ave. Waynesboro, Pa., for many years, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
Born Oct. 8, 1919, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Owen L. and Jeanette (Ryder) Morganthall.
He retired in 1982 from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.
Gerald was a 1938 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Waynesboro.
He also was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 586 F& AM of Waynesboro; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple of Harrisburg; member of Joe Stickell Post 15 American Legion of Waynesboro; member of the Order of Owls Nest No. 1023; member of Owls Club; and life member and past president of ATH& L Fire Co. of Waynesboro.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II, serving with the 301st Bombardment Group.
Surviving family are one son, Gerald O. (wife Sharon H.) Morganthall Jr., New Palestine, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with Pastor Jay Zimmerman officiating. Military graveside honors will given by the Chambersburg VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268; or to the Lunch Place, c/o Christ United Methodist Church, 100 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA.
