Harry Ridgney Leasure, 92, of Boonsboro, Md., passed from this life Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home.

Born Feb. 15, 1919, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Harry and Virginia Belle (Whorton) Leasure.

Mr. Leasure was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.  

He was a founding member of Boonsboro Bible Church, where he had been very active. He also was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Northeast, Md.

Harry retired from Mack Trucks in 1981 after 20 years of service. Before that, he was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, and Celanese Corp. near Cumberland.

Harry will be fondly remembered as "Mr. Chords." He was well-known for his musical talents and teaching, as well as writing poetry. Harry also enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel I. (Yokum) Leasure; his son, Harry Richard Leasure Sr. and his wife, Eleanor, of Clearville, Pa.; his son-in-law, Joe Liberatore of Havre de Grace, Md.; one sister, Phyllis Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Harry Boden and his wife, Janet, of St. Johns, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, June Leasure of St. James, Md.; a brother-in-law, Alan Spensley of Dubuque, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy C. Liberatore; one sister, Myrna Spensley; and two brothers, Bernard Leasure and Carl Whorton.

The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

A funeral ceremony will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert A. Welty will officiate.  

A military interment ceremony will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rocky Gap Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md. Immediately following the interment, the family will gather with friends for fellowship at Prosperity United Methodist Church near the cemetery.
