Helen Horai, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born May 24, 1923, in Passaic, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Stella Bodek.
Helen graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Lodi, N.J., where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended the Delehanty Business Institute in Newark, N.J. She was employed as an executive secretary by Wright Aeronautical Corp. in Woodridge, N.J. Following many years as a full-time homemaker, she was employed by Mack Trucks Inc., in Hagerstown.
Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Holy Family of St. Joseph; and was a member of the craft, hospitality and bereavement groups.
She was a member of the Mack Golden Bulldogs.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Horai Jr., and their son, John Horai III of Hagerstown; by a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Doris Bodek of New Jersey; by a sister-in-law, Jean Bodek of New Jersey; by a nephew, Dr. Edward Bodek of California; and by three nieces, Gladys Smith, Eileen Alagia and Lauren Mastrobuono of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Bodek.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Christopher Moore as celebrant.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
