Helen MaRea Jones (Sally, to many of her friends), age 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away May 12, 2012, at home with her family by her side.
Born in Hanover, Pa., on Aug. 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Devilbiss, and was raised in Westminster, Md.
She graduated from Westminster High School in 1941. She attended Baltimore Business College, Baltimore, Md. She worked for the USF&G insurance company in Baltimore; the B.F. Shriver Co. in Westminster; the federal government at Fort Detrick and Fort Ritchie; and for two dermatologists in Hagerstown.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 56 years, Ellis M. Jones, who died April 18, 2000; and a sister, Louise Myers of New Windsor, Md.
She is survived by three children, Steven Jones and his wife, Susan, of Louisville, Ky., Gene Jones of Crofton, Md., and Cynthia Murray and her husband, Galen, of Hagerstown; and a niece, Tamara Haifley, of Westminster. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Denise Kappler and her husband, Burke, of Arlington, Va., Christopher Jones and his wife, Amy, of Louisville, Amy Miller and her husband, Josh, of Hagerstown, and Andrew Murray of Hagerstown, as well as four great-grandchildren, Max and Rachel Kappler of Arlington, and Alexander and Ellie Jones of Louisville.
She was a member of Christ’s Reformed Church, serving as a deacon and on various committees within the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aspiring To Serve Fund at Christ’s Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 r to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be at Christ’s Reformed Church on Friday, May 18, at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
