Henry Franklin (Hank) DeLauney, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, amid his family and friends, after a long illness.

Born June 27, 1924, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Theodore Franklin and Miriam Belle Adams DeLauney.

He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was the Hagerstown Fire Department's deputy chief arson investigator, retiring in 1981.

He was a golden member of Grace United Methodist Church and the former president and original organizer of the local United Methodist Men's Organization.

He served on the Hagerstown Board of Public Safety. He was a member of the Antietam Fire Co. and Western Enterprise Fire Co. He was a member of North American Associated Inspectors, Maryland Association of Arson Inspectors, and the Pennsylvania Association of Arson Investigators, the Washington County Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Professional Firefighters Local 1605, the Long Bow & Rifle Club, BPO Elks 378, the North American Rod & Gun Club, AMVETS Post 10, VFW Post 1936, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and the International Association of Arson Investigators.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna Marie Kiracofe DeLauney; two daughters, Carole Diane DeLauney Disharoon and husband, Richard Alan, of Parkville, Md., and Martha Eyleen DeLauney Miller and husband, Walter Dudley, of Maugansville, Md.; one son, Jeffrey Alan DeLauney and wife, Linda, of Hagerstown; one sister, Catherine Lee DeLauney Harris of Funkstown, Md.; one brother, Harold Theodore "Bud" DeLauney of Sharpsburg; two grandchildren, Megan Marie Miller of Hagerstown and Taryn Elizabeth DeLauney of Hagerstown; and three step-grandchildren, Kerry Sue Disharoon Mueller and husband, Werner, of Westminster, Md., Sherry Lynn Disharoon of Parkville and Scott David Miller of Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Elaine DeLauney Hull and Peggy Lou DeLauney Gower.

Pappy will be sorely missed by "Chloe," the family's miniature Shih Tzu.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Monday from 6 to 9 p. m., and one hour prior at the church.
