Ida Mae Pepple, 66, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 23, 1946, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late William L. Kendall Sr. and Dorothy E. (Stottlemyer) Kendall.
She was a 1964 graduate of Smithsburg High School.
In her earlier years, Ida was employed by Austin Hill Sewing Factory in Waynesboro, Pa., and Jerry's Restaurant in Hagerstown. In her later years, she was employed by Food Lion in Smithsburg, Smithsburg Market, Hartle's Subs in Smithsburg; and she did domestic housekeeping around the area. She at one time opened her own restaurant business.
She was president of the Smithsburg Sunshine Leisure Club, and attended The Vine Church of Smithsburg.
She loved to cook, work in her flower beds, play bingo, listen to country music, especially Alan Jackson, and was an avid animal lover. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, and her warm and loving smile.
She will be missed dearly by her daughter, Penny S. LeDane and husband, Mike, of Smithsburg; son, Michael E. Pepple and wife, Diane, of Kapolei, Hawaii; son, Darrow Shupp of Smithsburg; daughter-in-law, Amanda; grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah, all of Waynesboro; sister, Betty L. South and husband, Harold, of Greencastle, Pa.; brother, William L. Kendall Jr. of Cavetown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Ann Rohrer; and one brother, Gerald E. Kendall.
Ethan and Hannah were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them and taking them to the movies.
Services will be Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor David Rawley officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
