Irma Basil Root, 89, a resident of Annapolis, Md., most recently for six years, died of natural causes Sunday, May 6, 2012. She had been living at Heart Homes Assisted Living on Arundel on Bay Road.
Born April 1, 1923, in Annapolis, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Frances Viola Basil.
Irma graduated from Annapolis High School in 1940. She married in 1943 and lived in Annapolis, Havre d’ Grace and Catonsville before settling in Hagerstown in 1957.
She worked at First National Bank in Hagerstown for 22 years.
Her interests included her family, needlework, playing bridge, traveling, her Methodist Church Circle and her many friends.
Irma was preceded by her husband, Frank A. Root, who passed away in 1981. She was also preceded in death by four older half siblings, John, Edward, Ida and Carolyn.
She is survived by a son, Barry A. Root and wife, Cindy; two grandchildren, Stephen Root of Stevensville, Md., and Laura Coy of Dacula, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. L. Patrick Ricker will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
