Jewel Banks Hicks, age 92, of Williamsport, Md., and formerly of Maugansville, Md., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Homewood of Williamsport under the loving care of the staff of Homewood and Hospice of Washington County.
Born Wednesday, July 14, 1920, in Stanly County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late J. Homer Mauldin and the late Daisy (Barbee) Mauldin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen D. Hicks, in 1994.
She was formerly employed with Dorby Dress Manufacturing. She was a charter member of the Maugansville Homemakers Club, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter, where she served as past Matron, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary, First Baptist Church, Senior Citizens of Maugansville, and the Ruritan Club of Maugansville. She also was 4-H Club leader for many years. She loved to cook, garden and design and made many of her clothes.
She is survived by two sisters, Frances Scott of Albemarle, N.C., and Dorothy Moody of Concorde, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lonnie Mauldin, George Frank Mauldin, and Richard Mauldin and sisters, Kate Smith and Maude Frye Wiseman.
Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Thom Smith officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at the Rest Haven Cemetery.
